En Uru

The first tribal heritage village in Kerala named En Uru has been opened at Pookode in the Wayanad district. It has been set up on 25 acres on the slope of a hillock at Pookode. A tribal market, a centre with 10 prototype tribal huts, rain shelter, toilet block, landscape works, art and crafts workshop, shop to introduce tribal medicines to tourists, cafeteria, amphitheatre to showcase tribal art forms, heritage pathway, and children’s park have been set up.

Pookot Lake

Chain Tree

The myth of the tree is associated with the tribal chief Karinthandan, who lived between 1700-1750 AD. During the British colonial era, Wayanad didn’t have any developed roads. Wayanad was blessed with dense forests and hills only the tribes knew the paths through these forests. Karinthandan belonged to the Paniya tribe, he was the chief of that tribal community.He knew every path in the forest. So when the British Viceroy announced a reward for to those who find a way from Thamarassery to Wayanad to through the forest, a British engineer took the help of Karinthandan to find the route. After a lot of effort, the priest was able to chain the ghost to a Ficus tree, which is now known as the Changala Maram or Chain Tree.

At a distance of 13 km from Meppadi, 24 km from Kalpetta & 46 km from Sulthan Bathery, Soochipara Waterfalls, also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls, is a beautiful waterfall situated in Vellarimala mountain range of Wayanad, among the popular tourist places in Kerala. It is one of the most visited tourist places to visit in Wayanad and is among prime place to visit on a Wayanad Trip. Soochipara Waterfalls is a 3 tiered waterfall, dropping from a height of about 200 meters. The waterfall cascades down into a large pool, which is a good place for swimming and bathing. The name Soochipara given from the words soochi means rock and para means needle. One can see needle-shaped rock here hence the name Soochipara. The water from Soochipara Falls later joins Chaliyar River after Vellarimala Hills near Cherambadi in Tamil Nadu.

Karapuzha Dam

Karapuzha Dam is considered to be the second-largest earth dam in India. It is a fine place for an unwinding evening, with a gentle breeze, amazingly scenic sky and waterfront. A bouquet of nearly a dozen lakes merged together to form this reservoir in Karapuzha river, a small tributary of the Kabani river. Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary

Established in 1973, the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is contiguous to the protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka on the north east and Mudumalai of Tamil Nadu on the southeast. Rich in bio-diversity, the sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The management lays emphasis on scientific conservation with due consideration for the general lifestyle of the tribals and others who live in and around the forest region. The Sanctuary has a large population of pachyderms and has been declared a Project Elephant site.

Thirunelly Temple

Surrounded by the Kambamala, Karimala and the Varadiga Peaks, the Thirunelly Temple embodies classical, traditional Kerala architecture. A famous pilgrim centre, this temple, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu - the god who maintains life - attracts hordes of devotees especially for performing ancestral rites. The shrine is shielded with 30 granite columns and the ground is paved with huge square pieces of granite. Snuggled among mountains and forests, this riverside temple is close to the mountain spring, Papanashini. A ritual dip in its crystal clear waters is believed to wash away one’s worldly sins.

Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary

Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary or Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is a beautiful destination located 20 km east of Mananthavady on the Kodagu Road.
